Stormy Daniels’ Former Lawyer Michael Avenatti Goes After Michael Cohen Over Podcast Rant – Daily Beast

A fresh war of words between Donald Trump’s former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen and convicted attorney Michael Avenatti has broken out over Stormy Daniels, resulting in the two Trumpworld figures trading legal barbs.

Cohen, who helped orchestrate a $130,000 hush-money payoff to Daniels on behalf of former President Trump to catch and kill her story about their affair, recently had the adult film star on his Mea Culpa podcast.

Daniels, who has a pending defamation case against Trump, unloaded on Avenatti, saying he tried to dominate her life and comparing him to a controlling boyfriend.

“I always had a weird feeling in my gut,” Stormy said about Avenatti. “I was never comfortable being alone with him and he got very controlling.”

“He showed up at my Vogue photoshoot and ended up in the magazine with me,” Daniels said.

Rival Documentary Crews in Beef Over Gang Member’s Life Rights – Variety

Rival Documentary Crews in Beef Over Gang Member’s Life Rights – Variety

Alfred Lomas, a former Florencia 13 gang member, is at the center of a dispute between rival documentary filmmakers.

Alfred Lomas is a former member of Los Angeles’ Florencia 13 gang who has since devoted his life to making peace between rival gangs.

But his story has proved so compelling that now two rival documentary crews are fighting for the right to tell it on screen.

Lomas makes an appearance in “License to Operate,” a documentary on L.A. gang intervention workers that was set to air in January on the Viceland channel. But shortly before the air date, Vice Media got a cease-and-desist letter from Nikki Hevesy, a documentary producer who claimed to have the exclusive right to Lomas’ life story. Viceland canceled the broadcast, and it’s unclear when or if the doc will air.

Hevesy owns Through the Glass Productions, which states on its website that it is seeking partners and financing for “A Violence Disrupted,” a documentary on L.A. gang intervention.

“License to Operate” was directed by James Lipetzky and produced by Omelet, an L.A.-based creative agency. The doc debuted at the Seattle International Film Festival in 2015, and has since been available for streaming on iTunes and Amazon.

According to a federal lawsuit filed by Omelet on Wednesday, Hevesy has repeatedly contacted media companies, festivals and broadcasters to try to prevent the distribution of “License to Operate.”

“She’s jealous,” said attorney Perry Wander, who filed the suit. “She’s upset she wasn’t the one that did it and she keeps giving the screws to my client.”

Russell Simmons Sued Over Rape Accusation

Russell Simmons Sued Over Rape Accusation

By Melena Ryzik

A Los Angeles woman has accused the music mogul Russell Simmons of sexual battery and rape in a civil lawsuit filed against him Wednesday in federal court there.

The lawsuit asks for $5 million in damages from Mr. Simmons, the multimillionaire Def Jam Recordings co-founder who, in the last two months, has been accused of sexual misconduct, assault or rape by at least 10 other women, and has been the focus of a police investigation.

Mr. Simmons has strenuously denied any misconduct. In a statement Wednesday, he called the lawsuit allegations “absolutely untrue.” He added: “I look forward to having my day in court — where, unlike the court of public opinion, I will have the ability to make use of fair processes that ensure that justice will be done and that the full truth will be known.”

In the complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, Jennifer Jarosik, 37, said she first met Mr. Simmons, 60, in New York in 2006, and that they became friends based on a mutual interest in meditation, yoga and veganism. Ms. Jarosik was interested in interviewing Mr. Simmons for a documentary she was making; Mr. Simmons agreed and said he would help her produce and finance the film, which they began working on, the complaint says. Ms. Jarosik said that, in 2016, she went to Mr. Simmons’s home in Los Angeles, at his invitation, and he asked her to have sex. She said no. He became aggressive, the complaint alleges, and pushed her onto the bed; when she tried to push back, he knocked her to the floor and raped her, she says.

The lawsuit said the two had been friends for several years when Simmons agreed to help Jarosik produce a documentary.

The suit says Jarosik went to Simmons’ Los Angeles home in August 2016 for a project meeting and he tried to have sex with her, then raped her when she refused.

Jarosik is seeking at least $5 million in damages.

Simmons said in a statement that the allegations in the suit are “absolutely untrue.”

In a statement read to CBS News over the phone, Jarosik’s lawyer Perry Wander said the music industry should “face the music.”

“It’s time that the hip hop industry face the music and recognize that the deep-rooted history of misogyny and discrimination and exploitation of women in the music industry has to come to an end. #TimesUP,” he said. “Mr. Simmons is a longtime vegan, practicing nonviolence against animals. So basically he treats animals better than women. The hypocrisy has to stop now.”
